the oakland group (Vodafone)

data engineer · leeds · february to june 2019.

impact

  • vodafone’s enterprise-wide migration off legacy teradata warehouses onto redshift. 300 million rows a day, 30 gb, with 100% migration assurance reported to a dashboard built for it.
  • a two-week pilot delivered on time to vodafone’s head of data transformation. the shop floor’s disconnected data marts were centralised into one digital delivery pipeline.

the organisation

the oakland group is a leeds data and analytics consultancy. a trade article records my joining its team in april 2019, from rhea group. vodafone was the client, and the warehouse was its own.

what i did

the migration, the data quality, the governance and the operations around it. scala, python, teradata, databricks, emr, redshift, glue, spark.

what it meant

i worked under extreme pressure and took the wins with the falls. i learned petabyte-scale data migrations and data pipelines under the pressure of delivering for the giants of the telecommunications industry, from some of the best.
