• network engineers had been moving racks of switches and configuring each one by hand. i wrote a python tool that configures over 200 switches across the whole estate. it saved 18 network engineer-days a month. can’t even tell you how much money that is.

the organisation

hewlett packard enterprise’s services arm, now dxc technology, ran the data centres. the switches were theirs.

what it meant

my first product as a python contractor. i was given one job and became obsessed with the customer: laser-focused, and hyper-optimised around the cumulative time they had to spend. i picked up network engineering on the way.
