parfit

parfit, paragraph fit · mit · rust.

par reflowed plain text with optimal-fit line breaking in 1993. parfit does the same for the prose inside code comments, and it knows the codebase it is in: machine-readable directives pass through unchanged, block comments are reflowed as well as line comments, and in markdown the fenced code stays as it was written. it installs with cargo install parfit or from a homebrew tap, every release ships prebuilt binaries for people without a rust toolchain, and parfit formats its own source.
