aegis

aegis, an archive tool, by alex david · a cli.

an archive tool to help immortalize photos, documents, and other data you want to keep for your lifetime. a backup is too passive for data you want to keep that long: a fat-fingered rm, a viewer that writes the file it opened, a bit flipped on the way to a new disk, all back up quietly until the original is gone. aegis asks you to review and snapshot the changes you commit to the store, like git, but made for lots of files of any size going to several places. i advocate for it, i keep my own copy beside the source, and alex david is one of my heroes.
